Am I lazy?

Having travelled home by train I was unable to take my PC. Instead I took my USB Hard drive which had all of the work I needed to do over the holidays.

At home we have two PCs, one in my room and one in my brothers. My brothers PC has a vast collection of MP3 music and some nice speakers attached, the PC in my room has no speakers and only the windows logon sound to bob my head to.

As I like to work to music, I decided to work in my brothers room. However, I could not be bothered to crawl under his desk to connect my hard drive, so instead turned on the pc in my room too, plugged the HDD in there and shared it accross the network.

Lazy?

Microphone technique

so I’m sat at my computer, writing my recording studio techniques report and generally minding my own business when I recieve a phone call from a call centre.
I noticed that the callers voice was clipping horribly and so (in my ashamed nerdiness) stopped her mid scentence to ask if she was wearing a headset and […]

mp3list.txt - the product of a word generator?

If by now you have a working search algorithm, search your library for trackId 38 and be amused (childishly) at what the word list generator that must have created mp3list.txt has created.
Enjoy

Choosing a web browser…

… is a decision that should be made after watching this video!

Video Production: Story Board

I don’t know if you’re aware of my script, but its basically some guys playing instruments and I have to fit about 30 different shots into 30 seconds. That makes for a busy story board!
I just wanted to share with you all the fact that I’m doing the panels in MS Paint and regardless of […]

Am I being a retard…

… probably, but that aside, I’m getting my lab book up to date (yeah I know, I was inspired by Doms work efforts and felt compelled to do some myself).
I’m calculating the 3dB bandwidth of the wideband amplifier (Noise Lab section 3.1). I have the tabulated results in Excel and given that in my infinate […]

Installing a second HDD

To enable me to work from home over the University holidays, I brought the Hard Drive from my computer (call it UniPC) in York back to Cheshire. Given that this PC (we’ll call it HomePC) already had a hard drive, I’d have to add mine as a slave.
If you’ve already done this for yourself, I’d […]

Wireless speaker system

… anybody got a decent clue how to implement one?
The nice(ish) analogue way…
I’m compelled to amplitude modulate the audio onto a carrier frequency and then Tx it, then use a super-heterodyne reciever (see first year Comms notes) at the other end. Other than that, its a case of very simple Op-Amp circuitry a-la VAM (Versatile […]

Revelations

Whilst chatting with a first year Electronics student about his group project (I was curious and making small talk - the way only an electronics student can) I realised that I could probably do his entire project right there and then! This clearly means I must have learnt (is it learnt or learned?) something from […]

Making a server

… so I’m thinking of making a server to live at home (parents home, not university home).
I’ve got the beginnings of a machine (case, motherboard… need processor, memory, HDD, ?optical drive?) but I’ll need an OS and all the other stuff to go into it to make it a server. In short I have no […]
